Cold camping

Well, 1st April is too early for camping in this country. No, really, take my word for it. I was determined to get the most out of our fabulous new tent and camp at every opportunity this year. Never again! The tent is brilliant, really great and I can't wait to be back in it later in the year. Right now, though, I couldn't be more delighted to have survived the week and be back in our lovely snug house with central heating and hot water. Not having to wear thermals and hats to bed feels very luxurious!

Yes, this is frost on the tent. We had a lovely warm day in the Rainforest Biome at the Eden Project, though - it was really great and the children loved the special Freaky Nature exhibition which allowed them to experience being velcroed to a wall...

The littlest girl is simply the most determined personality I have ever met. She would NOT be picked up, would only walk at her own pace and would pick up the sticker she was carrying around every single one of the billion times she dropped it. Which made for a very long time spent in the Mediteranean Biome... independence and strength of mind can only be positive characteristics, I tell myself!
But the objective for our camp this week was to test the tent, work out the new cooker for future camps and have some family time away. An ill boy and a teething girl didn't add a great deal to the proceedings, but we spent a lovely couple of hours on the beach, and we were very pleased to feel we'd cracked the cooking!

Salmon, halloumi, veggie sausages and veg all cooked to perfection on the Cadac. We borrowed this one from my sister but will definitely be adding one to our kit, it was brilliant! I don't think we'd camp this early in the year again, but it was fun, a good experience for us all, and it's made us really appreciate being home, too!

Glad the tent was a hit. Shame about the weather, the week before would have been perfect!! I keep telling myself that all the characteristics I find hard as a parent are actually really good characteristics to have later in life, just makes parenting that bit more of a challenge! Patience is a virtue and all that! ;)
